Mapping a drive letter to your MS Live Skydrive

The easiest way to do it in a 1-off scenario using Win7 is probably as follows:

  1. Log into your skydrive and copy your ID out of the URL.  You want to copy the characters between "cid-" and ".skydrive".
  2. Open My Computer and select "Map network drive".
  3. Select an unused drive letter and enter the following for the folder: \\docs.live.net@SSL\%ID%\^.Documents where %ID% is what you copied in step 1.
  4. Select "Reconnect at logon".
  5. Enter your Live@edu credentials, if prompted.
This will map the drive to your My Documents folder in the skydrive.  It is possible to map drives to other folders as well, although the syntax isn’t quite the same.  For Instance, replace ^.Documents with ^2Public to map a drive letter to your public folder.  Also, some have had to use ^2Documents instead of ^.Documents, but if you play with it, you should be able to get it to work!
